Alright, at this point you should know the drill. Because I have already read so much this year, I have decided to break my favorite annual post (my reading list) into a monthly series. You can also keep up with Hunkiedorië this year as I release more book content than I have in the past. Let me know what you think. Do you have any suggestions on what I should read next?

September has a shorter reading list. I explored more mystery, murder, and mayhem-themed books with a slight sprinkle of romance on the side.

Jackaby (Jackaby #1)

by William Ritter

Newly arrived in New Fiddleham, New England, 1892, and in need of a job, Abigail Rook meets R. F. Jackaby, an investigator of the unexplained with a keen eye for the extraordinary–including the ability to see supernatural beings. Abigail has a gift for noticing ordinary but important details, which makes her perfect for the position of Jackaby’s assistant. On her first day, Abigail finds herself in the midst of a thrilling case: A serial killer is on the loose. The police are convinced it’s an ordinary villain, but Jackaby is certain the foul deeds are the work of the kind of creature whose very existence the local authorities–with the exception of a handsome young detective named Charlie Cane–seem adamant to deny.

Hunkiëdorië Review: This is firmly in the YA category, no romance here, which is a total change up from almost every book I have read this year. Even though I moved aways from the romance in this series I was firmly still in fantasy land. I read a book review that described this series as Buffy The Vampire Slayer meets Sherlock Holmes and that was truly the perfect description. Jackaby is a bizzare and endearing character and Abigail serves as the perfect point of view to explore this new and strange world.

Beastly Bones (Jackaby #2)

by William Ritter

In 1892, New Fiddleham, New England, things are never quite what they seem, especially when Abigail Rook and her eccentric employer, R. F. Jackaby, are called upon to investigate the supernatural. First vicious shape-shifters disguise themselves as a litter of kittens, and a day later, their owner is found murdered. Then in nearby Gad’s Valley, bones from a recent dig mysteriously go missing, and an unidentifiable beast starts attacking animals and people, leaving mangled bodies behind. Charlie calls on Abigail for help, and soon Abigail and Jackaby are on the hunt—for a thief, a monster, and a murderer.

Hunkiëdorië Review: Book two kept me guessing with a twist at the end I didn’t see coming!

Ghostly Echoes (Jackaby #3)

by William Ritter

Jenny Cavanaugh, the ghostly lady of 926 Augur Lane, has enlisted the services of her detective-agency tenants to solve a decade-old murder—her own. Abigail Rook and her eccentric employer, R. F. Jackaby, dive into the cold case, starting with a search for Jenny’s fiancé, who went missing the night she died. But when a new, gruesome murder closely mirrors the events of ten years prior, Abigail and Jackaby realize that Jenny’s case isn’t so cold after all. Soon Abigail’s race to unravel the mystery leads her down to the mythical underworld and deep into her colleagues’ grim histories to battle the most deadly foe she has ever faced.

Hunkiëdorië Review: I laughed, I cried, I read this way too fast.

The Dire King (Jackaby #4)

by William Ritter

The fate of the world is in the hands of detective of the supernatural R. F. Jackaby and his intrepid assistant, Abigail Rook. An evil king is turning ancient tensions into modern strife, using a blend of magic and technology to push the earth and the otherworld into a mortal competition. Jackaby and Abigail are caught in the middle as they continue to solve mysteries in New Fiddleham, New England—like who’s created the rend between the worlds, how to close it, and why the undead are appearing around town.

At the same time, the romance between Abigail and the shape-shifting police detective Charlie Cane deepens, and Jackaby’s resistance to his feelings for the ghostly lady of 926 Augur Lane, Jenny Cavanaugh, begins to give way. But before the four can think about their own futures, they will have to defeat an evil that wants to destroy the future altogether.

The epic fourth volume in the New York Times bestselling Jackaby series features wry humor and a cast of unforgettable characters facing off against their most dangerous, bone-chilling foe ever.

Hunkiëdorië Review: This book was exciting but with a heartbreaking ending that brought on tons of tears. I believe there will be a spin off series that I am eager to read!

Dating Sucks (Supernatural Dating Agency #0.5)

by Andie M. Long

Once upon a time a speed dating event was held in Withernsea…
Join some of your favourite Withernsea characters in this short story prequel and discover when Shelley and Theo first met (and didn’t realise it) and how the dating agency came to be.

Hunkiëdorië Review: A prequel book to the Supernatural Dating Agency series. I read this second but I think it would be better for readers to start here instead.

The Vampire Wants a Wife (Supernatural Dating Agency #1)

by Andie M. Long

Shelley Linley is sick of weirdos. Yet another prankster has applied to her dating agency. This one says he’s a vampire and he wants Shelley to help him find a wife.

Meeting him for a second interview against all her better judgement, Shelley discovers that he has no clue about women. A shame because he’s super-hot, amusing, and has a lot of single friends he could recommend her struggling business to, even if he does say they’re werewolves and demons.

There’s something appealing about Theo, and Shelley’s sure she can help him meet someone. Then her dating algorithm states she’s his ideal partner.

Now she’s not sure if she should take the risk for love or run like hell.

Welcome to Withernsea and the Supernatural Dating Agency, for readers who like their humour to have bite.

Hunkiëdorië Review: The first book in what was a cute series. I do think that this may have been the best of all the books. Usually I say that series get better with every new story peaking somewhere in the middle but that wasn’t the case here. I felt like the books picked up too much momentum, feeling rushed the further along in the series we got.

A Devil of a Date (Supernatural Dating Agency #2)

by Andie M. Long

My best friend made a deal with the Devil…

I now run The Supernatural Dating Agency, a discreet section of Withernsea’s finest matchmaking service. Yeah, I’ll do all the work while Shelley makes babies with her gorgeous vampire husband.

It’s not like I’ve anything better to do anyway. My ex is now a newly-turned vamp struggling to accept he can no longer admire his own reflection, and I don’t care what Ebony ‘sees’, Kim is not about to date a wolf; he has better hair than I do.

Then Lucy Fir, fresh from the gates of guarding Hell, decides she wants me to find her a boyfriend. He’ll need to be a Knight in shining inflammable armour with her temper. Can I find her a date, or is my new career damned before it’s even started?

Welcome to Withernsea and the Supernatural Dating Agency, for readers who like their humour to have bite.

Hunkiëdorië Review: Not my favorite characters but a good story none the less.

Hate, Date, or Mate? (Supernatural Dating Agency #3)

by Andie M. Long

The seer says I’m destined for a wolf shifter called Darius….

Personally, I think Ebony has had too much vodka again. She says I’ve now started a Were war due to my date with a shifter from a different pack.

Just as I admit to myself that I like Darius, I find my Red Riding Hood fantasies are going to have to wait – because he’s not talking to me. Am I only interested because he’s playing hard to get? Do I like the chase?

To take my mind off things, I start dating a cute human guy – and then there were three.

Of Darius, Jett, and Seth. Who will I hate, date, or mate?

Hunkiëdorië Review: Darius is my favorite kind of MMC and honestly I think he deserved a lot better than Kim but whatever. The book was fine I guess.

Here for the Seer (Supernatural Dating Agency #4)

by Andie M. Long

What use is being a Seer, if you can’t see your own future?

After Ebony has a vision of her own wedding, she wonders who the groom is as she isn’t even dating. A trip to the Supernatural Dating Agency soon changes that.

While Kim and Lucy look for her future husband, Ebony keeps busy protecting Shelley and Theo’s newborn daughter from the visiting elite supernaturals of Withernsea.

But she’s not their only house guest, and Henry, the decorator, doesn’t only get under her feet, he gets under her skin…

Hunkiëdorië Review: cute

Didn’t Sea it Coming (Supernatural Dating Agency #5)

by Andie M. Long

The tides are changing in Withernsea.
Shelley’s adoptive parents make waves after they catch their daughter, Polly, with Drake Lord, a royal of the sea.

Holding Shelley responsible for the supernatural world invading their lives once more, they demand she splits them up or else they’ll expose the supernaturals of Withernsea to the rest of the world.

The residents of the sea aren’t keen on a human dating their royal either, especially a sea nymph intent on hooking Drake for herself.

Can Shelley intervene so that Polly and Drake can make love, not war?

Hunkiëdorië Review: this was fine

Phwoar and Peace (Supernatural Dating Agency #6)

by Andie M. Long

War has come to Withernsea…

The foretold prophecy is unfolding upon the residents of Withernsea after an old enemy returns. His plan… to destroy his adversaries so he can once again rule—and ruin—the lives of the people who live there.

Charlie Landry has no choice but to take her rightful place as queen, and fight for Withernsea’s freedom. But all she wants is for all this battle to be over, so she can live happily ever after with merman Kai, who she knows is her destiny. Between her nemesis; and her over-protective father, Theo; she’s getting increasingly frustrated… in more ways than one.

With her family and friends at her side, can Charlie defeat the enemy and bring lasting peace to Withernsea? She’s certainly going to have a devil of a time trying…

Hunkiëdorië Review: meh, this series moved along way too quickly and felt rushed, in this book most of all.

Flor’s Fiasco (Icehome, #16)

by Ruby Dixon

I’m not supposed to resonate to him.

It’s been a few years since I’ve landed here on Icehome Beach, and as resonance after resonance dwindled the list of bachelors, I knew who I’d end up with. As soon as we got past our differences, I’d end up as R’jaal’s mate.

On an everyday excursion, however, my khui decides otherwise. It sings all right…but not to R’jaal. Instead, I resonate to I’rec – the forceful, brash, overly-alpha leader of Shadow Cat. Did I mention he’s got a long-distance girlfriend already?

It’s a big mess, and it’s about to get messier.

But as things get chaotic on the beach and our way of life is threatened with upheaval, it’s the small things that end up mattering. Small things like the way I’rec kisses. Or the way we seem to have a lot more in common than we thought. Or the way I’rec can be gentle, but only with me…

Hunkiëdorië Review: Love me some Ruby, and it was fun to return to Not Hoth for another story.

Sense & Second-Degree Murder (Jane Austen Murder Mystery, #2)

by Tirzah Price

When eighteen-year-old aspiring scientist Elinor Dashwood discovers her beloved father slumped over the desk of his office study, she knows his death means dire straits for the Dashwood women. To make matters worse, an outdated will entails his estate—including Norland & Company, the private investigation firm where her younger sister Marianne worked as her father’s partner and protégé—to their half-brother and his haughty wife, who waste no time in forcing the Dashwoods out of their home and into a cramped apartment on London’s Barton Street.

But before they go, the Dashwood sisters make a startling discovery: a suspicious substance in their father’s teacup—one that can only be described as poison. And poison, as Marianne’s father taught her, always points to murder.

It could be dangerous; it could ruin their reputations; and most importantly, it won’t bring back their father. But if the Dashwood sisters can combine their talents and bring their father’s murderer to justice, it may bring them all some comfort—and it might even lead to love.

Hunkiëdorië Review: This series is an absolute joy to read and the covers are gorgeous. Just when I think I will be able to solve the mystery based on my preexisting Austin knowledge this book proves me wrong with twists at every turn.
