Alright, at this point you should know the drill. Because I have already read so much this year I have decided to break my favorite annual post (my reading list) into a monthly series. You can also keep up with Hunkiedorië this year as I release more book content than I have in the past. Let me know what you think, do you have any suggestions on what I should read next?

After reading so many dark romances the past few months I defaulted back to my lighthearted Ruby Dixon reads exploring books outside the IPB/IH series, and I FELL IN LOVE with the Risdaverse books-more specifically the Corsair books. Those books took the big blue boys I have grown to love but mixed in more adventure and excitement, they couldn’t be more perfect. Just prepare yourself for more cringy Ruby Dixon covers. To be fair they aren’t her worst, the Aspect and Anchors are great even. But, as we make our way to the Risdaverse and Corsair books we are back to tacky romance covers with bad photoshopping.

It seems that I read A LOT in July, so I have broken my normal monthly post into two parts. Part one is all Ruby Dixon, I have listed the books in my recommended reading order for the Risdaverse/Corsair books. Also due to the number of books I read this month I am posting this without my personal reviews to keep the length down. I will probably come back to this post at a later date to add my thoughts but for now here is my reading list!

Part two will be all other authors/books I read in the month of July.

You can find my full 2022 reading list on my Amazon storefront by clicking here!

Disclaimer: there may be a few spoilers , if you read on you have been warned.

The King’s Spinster Bride (Aspect & Anchor)

by Ruby Dixon

Sixteen years ago, Princess Halla of Yshrem saved the life of an eight-year-old barbarian boy and watched her kingdom fall to ruin, all on the same day. Now, she is a forgotten spinster in a quiet temple, living her days out in solitude. The last of her line, she exists in the hope that she has been forgotten, for to be remembered by the enemy is to be certain death.

One person has not forgotten her. Mathior, now twenty-four, is the fierce warrior king of the Cyclopae. Yshrem is in turmoil and his advisors have a suggestion – kill the last remaining member of the royal line, and there will be no rivals for the throne.

Mathior has a different idea. He’s loved Halla for sixteen long years, and it’s time he claimed her as his wife. But a barbarian’s wedding customs are unlike any other…

But then her father returns with news that he has found a bridegroom for her – one that is impressively tall. One that is strong, and bold, and wealthy. And best of all? He wants Iolanthe. It seems too good to be true.

No one mentioned the ‘orc’ part of things…

Bound to the Battle God (Anchor and Aspect Book 1)

by Ruby Dixon

When I went to my neighbor’s apartment to investigate strange sounds, I never expected to fall through a portal into another world. Yet here I am, a stranger in an even stranger land…and I’m stranded. In this world, might makes right, men carry swords, and gods walk the earth. Within minutes of arriving, I’m enslaved.

Fun place.

How do I get home? GREAT question. Wish I had an answer.

The one person that might be able to help me is also the one person I want to throttle most. Aron, Lord of Storms, Butcher God of Battle, is my new companion. Or rather, I’m his. As Aron’s anchor to the mortal realm, I’m the one that’s supposed to be guiding him through his exile in the mortal world.

Ha. Joke’s on him. I know nothing about this place.

But Aron and I have a common goal – get home. And we’re bonded – anchor and god – with a bond unlike any other. So we travel together. We bicker. We bathe together. We fight our many, many enemies together. And sure, he’s a god, but he’s also an arrogant jerk. Brawny, smoking hot, irresistible jerk. I should want nothing to do with him. I certainly shouldn’t want to do things to him.

Mortals and gods don’t mix. We stick to the plan and ignore our attraction. Focused, with one goal in mind.

One task. One goal.

Focused.

I—oh heck, I’m going to end up kissing him again, aren’t I?

Sworn to the Shadow God (Anchor and Aspect Book 2)

by Ruby Dixon

Adventure.

It’s what my boring life is missing, so when I fall through a portal into another world, I’m excited. Here, I’m important. Here, I’m special.

I find out just *how* special when I meet Death.

Yup. That guy. He’s been exiled to the mortal realm to work through his flaws, and he’s just as spoiled and awful as you’d think. Rhagos, the Shadow Lord, is arrogant and rude and controlling and demands to get his way. He’s selfish. He’s impossible.

He’s also utterly gorgeous. Magnetic. Lonely. And strangely protective of me.

Thanks to a magic bond, I now serve him as his anchor to the mortal realm. It means that I’m his conscience, his guide…and the target for any assassin or glory-seeker. After a few days of this, I’d rather go home than continue on this ‘adventure’. I need a way back to Earth, and fast.

As the world falls down around us and we’re hunted simply for existing, I find myself wondering what it’d be like to serve the lonely god of death…in all ways. To kiss him. To touch him. To bed him.

Except…I’m supposed to be finding a way home, not trying to kiss Rhagos. No matter how tempting he is. No matter how much he stares at my lips.

No matter how much I want it.

Wed to the Wild God (Anchor and Aspect Book 3)

by Ruby Dixon

When I find a gorgeous stranger in an alley, covered in blood, you’d think the logical thing would be to go to the authorities.

Not me. I take him home.

I’ve got my reasons, though. See, Kassam is cursed with hedonism. He’s a god from another world, accidentally stuck in ours. Anyone (and everyone) around him falls under his spell. It’s impossible to resist. Like scratching an itch. And being around Kassam? Boy, do I itch.

But trying to send the god home to his world is a near-impossible task. Between everyone we meet trying to kiss him and the gods of this world trying to get rid of him, I’m in over my head. There’s only one solution that will keep me safe — marry him. Being the wife of a god will protect me from immortal machinations.

Now, I just need to figure out a way to protect my heart from Kassam himself.

Prison Planet Barbarian (Risdaverse)

A pirate doesn’t ask for permission – he takes.

In The Corsair’s Bed (Corsairs Book 2)

by Ruby Dixon

As a pirate, I tend to hang out with unsavory outcasts at the edges of the known universe. I’m used to running into thieves, assassins and fugitives. It shouldn’t surprise me to see a forbidden human female for sale in the tunnels of the space station, but I hate it. When I see she’s near death, I have to act.

I buy her.

She spits in my face.

It’s love at first sight.

At least, it’s love at first sight on my end. I know it can never be, though, because I’m an ugly beast of an alien to her. The enemy. If only she knew just how many laws I’d be willing to break for one taste of her lips…

Enticed By The Corsair (Corsairs Book 3)

by Ruby Dixon

No one likes a rebellious captive.

I learned that the hard way. I’ve been abducted from earth and cruelly tormented for my fighting spirit until I learned that the only thing that would keep me safe is to be sweet and calm and agreeable. It’s what keeps me alive.

When I’m rescued by space pirates, they tell me I’m safe. I’m told I can be myself again, get as angry as I want, laugh and cry and scream all I need. I don’t believe them, of course. I certainly don’t believe Alyvos, the ‘muscle’ of the pirate ship. Everyone says that he likes nothing more than a good fight, but to me, he’s kind and protective. How can I fear someone who holds me tenderly through the night and has fuzzy skin?

But my pirate wants more from me than I’m ready to give. He wants my fiery spirit…and I’m not sure it’s there anymore.

Deceiving The Corsair (Corsairs Book 4)

by Ruby Dixon

The crew of the pirate ship the Lovesick Fool are worried about their navigator, Sentorr. He’s obsessed with working, spending all his time on the bridge. It’s not work the big blue alien is truly obsessed with, though.

It’s a female.

Sentorr’s convinced that Zoey, a female navigator on another pirate ship, is his mate. She won’t show him her face, though, or agree to meet him. She’s happy to have steamy, late-night conversations with him over comm channels, though.

He’s determined to find her and claim her, no matter what it takes. But when he does locate her and discovers that she’s been lying to him about who – and what – she is, will he still love her?

Or is the fact that Zoey’s human too much for this blue-skinned male?

When She’s Married (Risdaverse)

Piper is from an alien race called ‘humans’ and she needs a mate to help her protect her farm from aggressive neighbors.

Vordigar’s not interested in forever. Or marrying. Or settling down. He’ll go along with Piper’s plans just until he can get off planet…or so he thinks.

Because one night in Piper’s bed changes everything.

When She Purrs (Risdaverse)

by Ruby Dixon

Life on a farm planet at the edge of the universe can be dangerous for a human woman alone.

That’s why I need a husband. ANY husband.

Unfortunately, all the men I approach keep running off. So I hire a bounty hunter to kidnap me someone capable and strong, someone who will scare off the creeps that are trying to move in on my territory.

It’ll be a marriage of convenience only.

I should have been a little more specific about who I wanted, though…because the intimidating and fierce praxiian male that the bounty hunter brings to me? The one with feline features, big arms and an even bigger…uh, farm?

He’s the problem I was hoping a new husband would scare off. What am I supposed to do now?

(Don’t ask him, because all of his suggestions are completely and utterly filthy and have nothing to do with a marriage of convenience.)

When She’s Bold (Risdaverse)

by Ruby Dixon

On Risda III, it’s custom for women to marry for convenience. It provides safety and security in a universe that offers none for humans.

Me, I don’t really *need* a husband. I just want one. And I want one man in particular. There’s a new guy in town, a by-the-books military man named Rektar. Every day I show up to his office and flirt with him. I bring pies. I twirl my hair. I make it very, very obvious what I want.

Rektar is patient, and gentle for all his hulking form. He’d be a great husband. He’s also completely clueless that I’m flirting with him.

So it’s time for me to be a little bit bolder…

When She’s Lonely (Risdaverse)

by Ruby Dixon

Everyone says humans are safe on Risda III.

Yeah, right.

I was taken from Earth years ago and I’ve learned one thing – a flawed human is a dead human. So I keep my flaws to myself, and I focus on running my farm.

At least, I try to. But when I (accidentally) burn the barn down, one of the local officials shows up to help me put it out. And when Khex learns my secrets, he decides that he’ll keep them…

If I’ll go out on a date with him.

Oh, this is going to end badly.

When She Belongs (Risdaverse)

by Ruby Dixon

He’s the biggest jerk in the galaxy.

I can live with being stuck on the far end of space. I can live with having to spend weeks on an abandoned station in an asteroid belt. Sure, I don’t belong, but I’ve got my book and my eight-legged attack cat with me. I should be fine.

I’m not fine. My alien host, Jerrok, is a jerk. He’s surly and unpleasant. He hasn’t bathed in years. He’s part cyborg – and all those parts seem to be falling to pieces. He’s the one in charge of this remote station, which means we’re forced to interact. It’s an absolutely miserable situation for both of us… …until I realize that all his anger and bluster is covering the fact that he’s thoughtful and understanding. He’s protective, too, keeping me safe when the bad guys approach. When I get hurt, he’s the one tenderly caring for my wounds. Jerrok is also intensely, utterly lonely, just like me.

As time passes, I start to wonder…maybe where I belong isn’t a place…but a person.

When She Dances (Risdaverse)

by Ruby Dixon

I never expected to spend my days as a dancing girl…but it beats the alternative. In the window of a filthy space station cantina, I gyrate my hips and hope for better days.

When I’m bought by the most intimidating alien on Three Nebulas Station, those better days are on their way. Zakoar of the Broken Back is a cyborg who deals in black market prosthetics. He’s terrifying to look at, with a metal jaw and a fearsome demeanor. He intimidates everyone in the galaxy…except me.

Zakoar doesn’t want my name. In fact, he doesn’t want anything from me…except a little bed sport. In exchange for my willingness, he’ll take me to a human-friendly planet where I can live unafraid.

Love isn’t part of the bargain, but every moment that I spend with him, I learn more about the male beneath the metal…
…and I’m suddenly dreaming of a very different happy ever after for myself…

Fire In His Embrace (Fireblood Dragons Book 3)

Emma Arroyo knows this. She also knows that the big golden dragon captured by her brother’s biker gang is in trouble, and it’s all her fault. He followed her scent, and now his life is in danger.

She has to fix this, somehow. If she could talk to the dragon, they could form a plan to escape, both of them. But the dragon’s mind is wild and full of uncontrollable, killing rage. There’s no reasoning with him. There’s certainly no freeing him, not when he’s like this. But Emma can’t leave without him.

There’s only one way to solve this problem – a mating. When Emma approaches Zohr to claim him as hers, she realizes just what it means to be a dragon’s mate, and how much she’s in over her head…

I’ve wanted Andrea since the moment I saw her.

But she’s human. I’m drakoni. The only way I’ll stay sane and not lose myself to the madness that’s swept over my people is if I keep my mental walls strong. I have to give up everything that makes me a dragon. That means no telepathy, no fire breathing, and no battle form.

I certainly can’t take a mate. Andrea can’t be mine.

When her brother escapes the fort, though, she needs help tracking him down. That means I’ll be alone with her, breathing in her sweet scent, and it may be too much for my control.

Fire In His Chaos (Fireblood Dragons Book 8)

by Ruby Dixon

In dangerous Fort Dallas, Rachel is untouchable. All she has to do is hand over her panties every day. Sure, it’s weird, but it keeps her safe, right? And if there’s a reason behind it, she doesn’t care.

Until she finds out that she’s dragon bait. That changes things.

To stay in the fort’s sheltering walls, Rachel needs to ‘befriend’ a dragon and establish a mental connection with him. Drakoni male Jurik may be protective of her, and caring…but he’s still a dragon, and just as lost to the madness as any of them. He can’t be trusted. No dragon can. Rachel wears the scars from the last time she tangled with one, so seducing one seems absurd.

Or…is it?

Because Jurik doesn’t see her scars…all he sees is her. Is he her worst nightmare? Or everything she needed?
