For the past few years, my college girlfriends and I have talked about making layered jello shots for our annual Fourth of July Cabin Weekend. This year I finally decided to go for it, because nothing says you’re a patriot like red white and blue alcohol-laced jello…right? After glancing around on Pinterest for a while I discovered that most of the recipes were basically the same. I was very hesitant when I discovered that in every recipe the white layer consisted of condensed milk or cream. This sounds terrible to me and I wasn’t a big fan of the outcome. In the jellos defense, I’m sure it tasted fine, I just had made up my mind it tasted bad beforehand. I was amazed at how easy these jello shots were to make, as long as you aren’t in a rush these shouldn’t be a problem. Next year I will have to find a way to replace the dairy and maybe add in a cherry?
Print this recipe: Patriotic Jello Shots
Ingredients:
- 1 Box Blue Jello
- 1 Box Red Jello
- 1 Box Plain Gelatin (you only need 2 of the four packets that come in the box)
- 1 (14 oz.) Can Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1 C. Raspberry/Strawberry Vodka (cherry would work too, any red flavored vodka really) ( I used 5 mini bottles- a little more than 1 C. on all the alcohol)
- 1 C. UV Blue
- 1 C. Malibu Rum
- (plastic shot glasses with lids, I found mine at a party supply store)
- (1 C. boiling water per jello layer)
Directions:
- On a large tray layout plastic shot glasses to make it easier to take the jello shots in and out of the freezer.
Red Layer:
Bring one cup of water to boil and stir in red jello.
As the water cools stir in raspberry vodka.
Use a ladle to distribute liquid amongst plastic shot glasses, fill each one 1/4 full.
Place the tray in the freezer for about an hour or until firm.
White Layer:
Bring one cup of water to boil and stir in plain gelatin.
Mix in condensed milk.
Add in Malibu Rum
Use a ladle to distribute liquid amongst plastic shot glasses, fill each one 1/4 full. (cups should be half full after this layer)
Place the tray in the freezer for about an hour or until firm.
Blue Layer:
Bring one cup of water to boil and stir in blue jello.
As the water cools stir in UV Blue.
Use a ladle to distribute liquid amongst plastic shot glasses, fill each one 1/4 full. (should be 3/4 full after this layer)
Place the tray in the freezer for about an hour or until firm.
- Place lids on cups and store in the fridge until you are ready to eat them!
