Many of us know strength training is important, but for several, especially newbies, beginning a lifting program at a gym can be a scary feat. Even I have been intimated by weight rooms at times. But not to fret, I’m here to explain some of the top reasons why people avoid the weight room and how to look like a pro and more importantly, overcome your fears of the weights.
We set New Year’s resolutions to get healthier, for those of you still holding strong to your fitness goals you have found a gym and gotten your bearings. Now it is time to take the next step and approach your workout like a pro and start getting the results you’re looking for. Over the next week, you can look for one tip a day to help you get over gym-timidation.
Tip#5: Give yourself something to be excited about
Working out is tough. Sometimes the struggle starts even before you hit the gym. Sometimes even the best of intentions, like setting an early alarm or packing sneakers in your work bag, won’t be enough to get you psyched. Let’s be honest every day won’t feel like a fitness walk of fame, so don’t be too hard on yourself. It’s called working out for a reason, you have to show up and do something in order to see results, and a little motivation can go a long way.
Set up an awesome pump up playlist to workout to, or buy yourself a new workout outfit you feel confident in. Even changing your mindset about the gym such as viewing it as your personal “me” time will help give you that extra boost of confidence to help with your gym-timidation.

It doesn’t matter who you are, at one time or another we have been excited to wake up in the morning because you can’t wait to rock your new outfit. New outfit days start off on a good note when you know you’ll look and feel your very best. We are able to visualize the version of ourselves we are proud to display to the world!
I could talk hours about workout gear. My favorites are Lululemon and Gymshark. They are pricier though but definitely worth the splurge – high quality and always squat proof!
