A few weeks ago my friend Ali and a group of her friends went out to Gordy’s Steakhouse in Mahtomedi to celebrate her birthday. I had driven past Gordy’s hundreds of times but never eaten there. Ali’s boyfriend Ben was in charge of choosing the restaurant and had heard good things and I am always game to try new local places.
Ben called ahead and made us a reservation, good thing too because they seemed pretty busy. Thats one of the things I love about the Mahtomedi community. They are wonderful when it comes to supporting their local businesses. Our table was ready and waiting for us. I was a little shocked about how dark the restaurant was, once my eyes adjusted it was fine. Gordy’s has a very warm and inviting atmosphere and everyone you pass is having a wonderful time.
As soon as we were seated our waiter came to our table to take our drink order. A beer, two moscow mules and two bottles of wine later (one red & one white) we were ready to enjoy our evening. It was difficult to choose our meals because everything looked so delicious. We finally settled on two of their pasta dishes, two different steak dinners, their tuna and the chicken option.
Our meal were ready fairly quickly and were brought out together. This is such a minor detail and I know that no one wants their food sitting in the kitchen getting cold but I love when everyone can begin their meal together. The food was amazing and I’m pretty sure everyone cleared their plate and although we were stuffed to the brim could have found room for more if it was available. Throughout the evening our server was amazing. He was everything you would want in a waiter. Very knowledgable about the menu and wines selections, attentive without being overbearing and patient with our large group.
I am disappointed I didn’t try the steak, it looked unbelievable. Luckily this will give me an excuse to go back and try more menu items. For more information on Gordy’s Steakhouse you can check out their website or follow them on Facebook
