Too Late

by Colleen Hoover

Media: Audiobook | Genre: Contemporary Romance | Tags: Dark Romance, insta-love

Rating: 1 out of 5.

Sloan will go through hell and back for those she loves. And she does so, every single day. Caught up with the alluring Asa Jackson, a notorious drug trafficker, Sloan has finally found a lifeline to cling to, even if it meant compromising her morals. She was in dire straits trying to pay for her brother’s care until she met Asa. But as Sloan became emotionally and economically reliant on him, he, in turn, developed a disturbing obsession with her—one that becomes increasingly dangerous every day.

When undercover DEA agent Carter enters the picture, Sloan’s surprised to feel an immediate attraction between them, despite knowing that if Asa finds out, he will kill him. And Asa has always been a step ahead of everyone in his life, including Sloan. No one has ever gotten in his way.

No one except Carter.

Together, Sloan and Carter must find a way out before it’s too late…

Mighty Miley Review: Let me start by saying I am not a CoHo hater and have never given her books that I have read less than 3 stars… This, however, was painful, and I contemplated not finishing it multiple times. This was also the first one that I listened to rather than read but I don’t think that made much of a difference. I honestly would not recommend this book to anyone, unless I really hated them, and even then, I would feel bad about it.

Learn My Lesson

by Katee Robert

Media: Paperback | Genre: Dark Romance | Tags: Throuple, Multiple viewpoint, LBGTQ+

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

A single night with Meg and I’m willing to do anything to save her from Hades, the man holding her captive, victim to his every whim.  A bargain with the devil himself seems a small price to pay in order for Meg to go free… Until I learn that she’s exactly where she wants to be. She’s Queen to Hades’ King.  And I’m the fool that walked right into their trap.  The same fool who desires them both as much as I hate them. I can’t resist Meg’s touch—or stop from being drawn to Hades’ dark desires. By the time I realize just how deep a game he’s playing, it may be too late…

Mighty Miley Review: Another great Katee Robert book! Full of spice with a good plot as well. This is a good one for those who like why choose/MMF.  My only complaint is I want to see more of the female friendships that there are hints of in this series so far.

Romantic Comedy

by Curtis Sittenfeld

Media: Hardcover | Genre: Contemporary Romance | Tags: SNL-like setting, Musician

Rating: 3 out of 5.

A comedy writer thinks she’s sworn off love until a dreamily handsome pop star flips the script on all her assumptions. Romantic Comedy is a hilarious, observant, and deeply tender novel from New York Times–bestselling author Curtis Sittenfeld.

Sally Milz is a sketch writer for “The Night Owls,” the late-night live comedy show that airs each Saturday. With a couple of heartbreaks under her belt, she’s long abandoned the search for love, settling instead for the occasional hook-up, career success, and a close relationship with her stepfather to round out a satisfying life.

But when Sally’s friend and fellow writer Danny Horst begins dating Annabel, a glamorous actor who guest-hosted the show, he joins the not-so-exclusive group of talented but average-looking and even dorky men at the show—and in society at large—who’ve gotten romantically involved with incredibly beautiful and accomplished women. Sally channels her annoyance into a sketch called the “Danny Horst Rule,” poking fun at this phenomenon while underscoring how unlikely it is that the reverse would ever happen for a woman.

Enter Noah Brewster, a pop music sensation with a reputation for dating models, who signed on as both host and musical guest for this week’s show. Dazzled by his charms, Sally hits it off with Noah instantly, and as they collaborate on one sketch after another, she begins to wonder whether there might actually be sparks flying. But this isn’t a romantic comedy; it’s real life. And in real life, someone like him would never date someone like her…right?

With her keen observations and trademark ability to bring complex women to life on the page, Sittenfeld explores the neurosis-inducing and heart-fluttering wonder of love, while slyly dissecting the social rituals of romance and gender relations in the modern age.

Mighty Miley Review: A sweet romance, and enjoyed this book. It’s written in a different format with only three long chapters, and as a person that loves checking things off the to-do list, I missed the feeling of accomplishment and natural stopping points of shorter chapters. I also didn’t love all the details about the show the FMC worked on, but I am sure others would love that.

Forced Bonds

The stable foundation I thought I’d built in the Sanctuary has been ripped away, and I find myself on the front lines of the war against the Resistance. I might have my Bonds on my side, but there are darker schemes in motion. Can I prove myself and turn the tide to protect our most vulnerable, or am I nothing more than the monster they’ve always claimed I am? Will we make it out of this without tragic consequences?

Mighty Miley Review: Still loving these characters and the twists and turns… my heart has been stomped on by this one and I need a minute before I go on to book 5.

Tragic Bonds

by J. Bree

Media: Paperback | Genre: Paranormal Romance | Tags: Why Choose/Reverse Harem, Fated Mates, Multiple Viewpoint

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Nothing will ever be the same again. Our Bonded Group has been torn apart, and the monsters are now the prey. But we’re not going to just wait around for our enemy to strike; the blood on his hands is unforgivable, and the god living inside of me wants her revenge paid in blood. And a thousand souls. We have been pushed to the limit, tested in ways that have devastating outcomes, and paid the ultimate price. Can we recover from such losses? Is the promise of a world without our enemy worth the sacrifices we’ve made? Can we prove to everyone, and ourselves, that together our bonds are unbroken?

* Tragic Bonds is a full-length reverse harem PNR novel with material that may be difficult for some readers. This book will end on a cliffhanger. It’s recommended for 18+ due to language and sexual situations. Book 5 in the 6-book series.

Mighty Miley Review: Loved getting to understand more of Nox in this book. The only reason for keeping this from a 5-star rating was it still feels like there is a little more fluff than is fully necessary. But I enjoy these characters and their battles so much!!

Unbroken Bonds

by J. Bree

Media: Paperback | Genre: Paranormal Romance | Tags: Why Choose/Reverse Harem, Fated Mates, Multiple Viewpoint

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The gods live among us. I thought that the death of the man who tortured me, broke me, and then hunted me to the ends of the Earth would be the end of our fight; but it’s only the beginning. After thousands of years of being apart, our god-bonds are reunited once again; and they’re not ready to go down without a fight. They’ve woken up hungry. All of the research in the world couldn’t have prepared us for what’s to come, enemies and wars fought over millennia. Now we’re being forced to act, but this time, we have the advantage. This time, we’re Bonded. Are we strong enough to survive the gods and their plans? Will we ever live in the peaceful world we’ve fought so hard for, or is history doomed to repeat itself?

* Unbroken Bonds is a full-length reverse harem PNR novel with material that may be difficult for some readers. This book is the final installment and will not end on a cliffhanger. It’s recommended for 18+ due to language and sexual situations. Book 6 in the 6-book series.

Mighty Miley Review: So sad to be leaving these characters behind.  I loved the story and liked where it ended but I will say this book and the last book felt like they could have been put together, and some fluff could have been cut out. But I have a feeling this is a series I will reread, which is not something I do often!
